Small inductors of less than 50uH (SMD inductors up to 500uH) have little parasitic capacitance and therefore do not affect the measurement. |
The large parasitic capacitance of a bulky (winding) inductor affects the resonant frequency, which lowers the resonant frequency and is measured to be greater than the original inductance value. When measured in this Large L mode, this parasitic capacitance is removed and displayed. |
